Dear SPARC Members & Supporters,
In his Inaugural Speech yesterday President George W. Bush laid out a bold
vision for American foreign policy. At its core is his belief that
we will never be safe to enjoy liberty at home while large parts of the
world are denied the very liberty we hold so dear. It is not an easy
task he has committed us to and it will not be finished in four years.
To succeed, he will need all of our support though the inevitable setbacks
as well as the victories.
Congratulations to Keen Butcher, long-time member of the SPARC Board of
Directors, on his recent election as Chairman of the Santa Clara County
Republican Party. Keen put together a very strong team in support of
President Bush during the last election and we look forward to his
bringing that same energy to his new job.
Special thanks to Dr. Bob Burdett, outgoing Chairman of the Santa Clara
County Republican Party, for his years of dedicated service.
Luis Buhler, Director of the Santa Clara Chapter of the Lincoln Club and
Steve Poizner's Senior Campaign Manager, is now running himself for Bay
Area Vice President of the California Republican Party. He was
formally endorsed last weekend by SPARC's statewide parent organization,
the California Congress of Republicans. Good luck, Luis.
Steve Poizner, who was recently appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to
the Public Utilities Commission, will be the keynote speaker at SPARC's
Annual Meeting on February 2. The event is being held a Michaels at
Shoreline again this year; registration begins at 6:30. The cost of
$25 for members and $30 for non-members includes heavy hors d'oeuvres.
This is an important meeting for SPARC as we will be electing several new
members to our Board of Directors. And it is your easiest
opportunity to renew your SPARC membership for 2005. To make your
